OLIVET, Mich. – The Adrian College men's basketball team outlasted Olivet to win on the road, 83-76 in overtime. Christian Covile erupted, scoring 42 points and grabbing 10 rebounds to earn his seventh double-double of the season.
The game stayed close throughout the first half with the Bulldogs obtaining a three-point lead with both teams heading into the locker room.
Adrian would come out in the second half and build up a 14-point lead with 10:35 left to play in the game. However, Olivet would fight back hitting three straight 3-point shots and a lay up to tie the game at 60 with 4:26 left to play.
Two more lay ups and a jump shot following an Adrian made free throw would see the comets with their largest lead of the game, 66-61, with 2:26 left to play.
The final two minutes of the game both teams would exchange baskets until the buzzer sounded ending regulation and the score was tied at 70 all.
Adrian would start the five-minute overtime period making a quick three and a layup to take a 75-70 lead. Olivet would keep the margin within single digits but would fail to catch the Bulldogs before the final buzzer ended the game.
Adrian shot well from the free throw line making 73.3% (11-15) of their attempts. The Bulldogs also shot 47.7% (31-65) from the floor and 50% (10-20) from three. The Comets would shoot 28-61 (45.9%) from the floor, 6-25 (24%) from three and 14-18 (77.8%) from the free throw line.
Adrian edged Olivet in rebounds (39-31) and assists (21-12).
The Bulldogs head back home to host the Alma Scots on Wednesday, February 3 at 7:30 p.m.
