ST. LOUIS - Adrian College senior Justin Webster added a third award (MIAA Men's POTW & D3hoops.com TOTW) to his collegiate resume this week as the U.S. Basketball Writers Association (USBWA) recognized him as the NCAA DIII men's basketball National Player of the Week.
Each Tuesday, the USBWA selects a men's and women's Division III National Players of the Week. This is the fourth season that the USBWA will recognize national players of the week from Division III.
The USBWA was formed in 1956 at the urging of then-NCAA Executive Director Walter Byers. With some 900 members worldwide, it is one of the most influential organizations in college basketball.
Webster averaged a double-double of 28-5 points and 12.0 rebounds in a 2-0 weekend at the St. Andrews Products Classic hosted by Trine University. The Adrian, Michigan native began his week with a 29-point, 12-rebound outing in which the team defeated then third-ranked (D3hoops.com) Wisconsin-Whitewater by a score of 66-53. For an encore, Webster scored 28 points and hauled in 12 more boards in an 86-73 victory over Wisconsin Lutheran. Webster shot 19-29 (65.5%) from the floor, 17-25 (68.0%), and 2-2 (100%) from behind the arc for the weekend.
His performance also was a key factor in Adrian Men's Basketball being named the NCAA DIII Team of the Week by the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC).
This is the first time in Adrian College men's basketball history that a Bulldog player has been named the national player of the week by the USBWA.
