Foul Trouble Spells Undoing in Bulldog Loss

ADRIAN, Mich. – The Adrian College men's basketball team finished the weekend 1-1, after falling to Muskingum by five points on Sunday.

THE BASICS

Final Score: Muskingum 83, Adrian 78

Location: Adrian, Mich. (Merillat Sport and Fitness Center - Adrian College)

Records: Muskingum 2-2, Adrian 2-3.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Adrian owned several 10-point leads before the middle of the opening half, forcing a Muskingum timeout following a made three by Trey Helinski (26-15). Shortly after the timeout AC opened a 30-20 lead, before Muskingum posted a comeback, posting 16 points on a few ugly turnovers on the host, before the Bulldogs eventually answered with a Jordan Harris layup to trail only by four (36-32).

Tyler Gillery posted five points on a layup and a three, while Robert Warrick made a layup to round out the half just four points behind, 39-43.

The squads took turns dealing blows, while the Fighting Muskies slowly pulled away. The Bulldogs capitalized on a missed jump shot, as Harris went up for the defensive rebound, then sprinting unopposed down the court with Jeremy Kalonji, to whom he passed the ball for a dunk that made the stands erupt with excitement (48-57).

Adrian would use another Muskingum turnover to make the score 60-63, as Warrick forced a turnover, recording the steal, before feeding it to Harris for a made layup.

The Bulldogs again forced a timeout, posting a six-point run on four made free throws by Kalonji and Harris, capped off by a Harris layup to make it 70-73.

Warrick then found himself in trouble with four minutes remaining in the competition, collecting three fouls in the matter of 15 seconds, only giving up two shots.

The starting guard, Harris also found himself in foul trouble, having to leave the game with 1:45 remaining on the clock, while his team trailed by just four points, 72-76.

Adrian ultimately fell by a margin of five points, giving up two points on free throws in the final six seconds.
