COLUMBUS, Ohio--The Adrian College men's bowling squad competed in the Ohio State University Buckeye Baker Classic over the weekend, toppling 6,806 pins to finish in 11th place at the 16-team event held at H.P. Lanes.
The Bulldogs' score beat three Division I schools including Canisius, Indiana and Cincinnati. Division II Notre Dame College out of Ohio beat fellow D-II opponent Urbana University during the top-8 qualifying round, 7,701 to 7,588.
Adrian bowled the best the program has ever done for baker games, showing great improvement and coming together as a team while missing the match-play cut by only 90 pins.
"I was happy with the men's performance, but we still have work to do to make it to the level we need to," Adrian coach John Essenmacher III said. "I think if we can improve on spares throughout the rest of the year, we can beat anyone."
Urbana beat University of Northwestern Ohio in the match-play round for the team tournament crown.
The Bulldogs return to the lanes on Saturday and Sunday for the American-Heartland Intercollegiate Bowling Conference Tournament #3 in Wickliffe, Ohio.
