INDIANAPOLIS--The Adrian College men's bowling team ended its season over the weekend with a 17th-place finish out of 24 teams at the 2016 National Collegiate Club Championships held here at All Star Bowl.
On Saturday, Adrian bowled in the qualifying round of the event. The Bulldogs came in with a No. 24 Collegiate Club national ranking.
The Bulldogs started 2-0 in pool play before eventually finishing 3-3, placing fourth in their pool. In the first round of double-elimination matchplay, Adrian met Illinois State. The former won the winners' bracket best-of-five series going the distance, overcoming Adrian's 2-0 lead.
The Bulldogs on Sunday began the day in the contenders' bracket where they needed to beat the University of Toledo, a Division I opponent, to remain alive. But Adrian started off slow and could not recover, falling 2-0 to the Rockets.
Adrian lost in the third round and placed 17th overall.
"Overall, this team has grown over the entire year," said Adrian first-year coach John Essenmacher III. "Each athlete has taken direction from the coaching and we are getting better every day. This season was a success as every bowler got better, so we will be better next year."
