ARLINGTON, Texas--The Adrian College men's and women's bowling teams will learn later this afternoon if and where they will compete in the 2018-19 United States Bowling Congress sectional tournaments next month.
The USBC will be announcing the teams that qualified for postseason play for the USBC Collegiate season. The year started back in September, and teams have been competing week in and out attempting to collect enough points throughout the season to earn a spot at one of four sectionals held in March. The sectional locations are Stratford, N.J.; Addison, Ill.; Smyrna, Tenn.; and Dallas. Competition will take place March 8-10.
A total of 80 men's teams and 64 women's teams will be announced during our sectional assignment broadcast today at 6 p.m. Eastern at BowlTV.com. The four men's and four women's teams that advance from each sectional will go on to compete in the USBC Intercollegiate Team Championships (ITC), which will take place from April 15-20 in Dayton, Ohio. The winner of the ITC will take home the Helmer Cup, which is awarded to our national champion in each division.
In addition to the team aspect, there also is an individual portion of the event. Players will attempt to qualify for spots in Dayton at the Intercollegiate Singles Championships, too, which brings together the top 24 men and top 24 women from the four sectional locations to compete for the singles title.
Last season, the Bulldog men were 11th of 22 schools with 11,599 pins and Austin Foate placed 33rd out of 161 individuals as a sophomore; on the women's side, junior Marissa Land led Adrian in 39th out of 174 competitors while she and her teammates came in 12th of 17 teams (11,315). Stratford, N.J., was the sectional site for both programs.
