MARSHALL, Mich. - Adrian College men's golf saved their best for last on Tuesday afternoon as they won the final MIAA Jamboree of the fall hosted by Albion College at The Medalist Golf Course. In addition, Adrian jumped up to third overall in the MIAA standings and qualified for the league's spring 54-hole tournament which determines the automatic qualifier into the NCAA postseason. It was the program's best conference finish since 1982.
Adding to the highlights were co-medalist honors for Brandon Skytta and Cameron McKee of the Bulldogs. Both gentlemen fired a four-over par 76 as Skytta went 34-42 while McKee shot even 38's. Connor Doria tied for seventh with a round of seven-over par 79. Brad Haley shot 81 and tied for 16th along with Nick Hocker.
Haley still had enough from past events to be named First Team All-MIAA after the final event. Haley averaged 76.63 and occupied the final spot on the first team based on stroke average for the fall's eight jamborees. Skytta earned Second Team All-MIAA honors with a stroke average of 77.38. He claimed the final spot on the second team which consisted of six golfers.
Adrian shot 312 in the final jamboree and defeated Hope by seven strokes. In total, Adrian had 2,473 strokes and trailed Calvin (2,446) and Hope (2,456). Trine finished fourth in the league and will round out the school's competing in the spring tournament.
"I thought the team played well on a tough course with tough wind. Being 20 strokes behind going into the final 18 we were not thinking about finishing third we just wanted to put in a good showing and send a message for the spring. Things worked out and I feel it has given us the confidence for the 54-hole automatic qualifier," said head coach Troy Martin.
