KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The MIAA picture for a league champion is starting to take shape as five rounds are now in the books. The men's golf team kept themselves within striking distance on Monday afternoon with a 310 and a third place finish.
The fifth jamboree was hosted by Kalamazoo College and featured Trine winning the round with a 301. Calvin College finished second with a 307 and then the Bulldogs just three strokes behind the Knights. Hope College and the Hornets each fired 312 to tie for fourth.
Calvin and Hope each have exactly the same amount of strokes through five rounds (1,538) atop the conference standings. Adrian is currently third overall 10 strokes behind the league leaders.
"We are in a decent spot right now coming down the home stretch," said head coach Ryan Williams. "We are going to need to shoot very low the rest of the way to make up the difference. Having two teams above us makes it difficult because both need to be passed and we have 54 holes to do it. I know we are capable of going low, but just need to have four guys firing on the same day."
Jordan Pittman took low-man honors for the first time this fall shooting five-over par 76. The next three Bulldogs had one more stroke than the next. Brad Haley's 77 tied for 10th followed by Cam McKee firing 78 and Brandon Skytta recording 79.
