The Adrian College ACHA Gold team started the postseason on the right foot on Saturday, when they downed Saginaw Valley State University 6-1 to open the MCHC Playoffs. Adrian’s Alex Egan (Howell, Mich.) scored a pair of goals to lead the Bulldogs, as Adrian led 2-0 after one period and increased their advantage to 5-1 after 40 minutes.
Egan got the scoring started in the first, scoring at 10:44 of the period and then Mario Tomei (Livonia, Mich.) made it 2-0 just fifty-five seconds later, as the Bulldogs seized a two-goal advantage at the first intermission.
Myles Maltz (Mattawan, Mich.) came through with the Bulldogs' next goal to make it 3-0 early in the second period and after a Cardinals goal cut the lead to 3-1, Adrian put the game away with goals by Jack Clary (Grand Blanc, Mich.) and Egan.
The third period saw only one goal be scored, as Nick Hocker (Oxford, Mich.) put the puck in the net to make the final score 6-1.
With the win the Bulldogs advance to the MCHC semifinal against the Oakland University Grizzlies on February 27. Before that the Gold squad is involved in ACHA Division III North Regional action next Friday, February 20 when they square off against the Aquinas College Saints in Farmington Hills at the Farmington Ice Arena.
