Late Goals Cost Adrian Gold in 5-4 Loss to Aquinas

The Adrian Gold Squad led or was tied for most of the game, but a pair of Aquinas goals in the final ten minutes was enough to push the Saints past the Bulldogs 5-4 on Saturday in Grand Rapids.

The two teams traded goals the entire afternoon until Aquinas broke the streak with the game's final tally. Adrian and Aquinas each scored one goal in both the first and second periods, with senior forwards Nick Hocker and Jake Waldrup scoring for Adrian. Hocker scored again 1:38 into the final period, but the Bulldogs could only hold the lead for 37 seconds, when Aquinas forward Jason Wrbelis tied the game at three.

Sophomore forward Edward Clary gave Adrian their fourth lead of the day with 11:13 remaining in the game. Forward Nathan Aloisio scored an equalizer for the Saints with 9:16 remaining and forward Calvin Wojtaszak would add the game winner with 3:28 remaining.

Aquinas goalie Sean Schmeiser made 27 saves to earn his fifth win of the year while Adrian netminder Justin Lindgren had 24 stops.

With the win Aquinas improved to 6-3-0, while Adrian fell to 5-3-2.
