The Adrian College Gold ACHA ice hockey team made it a successful three point weekend on Sunday as they held the Oakland University Golden Grizzlies to a 2-2 deadlock at Arrington Ice Arena. The Bulldogs, who topped Oakland on Saturday night in Detroit, came from behind twice to earn an undefeated weekend against the region's #1 ranked squad.
Oakland's A. J. Rosales scored the first of his two goals to give Oakland an early 1-0 lead, but the Bulldogs tied the game on a spectacular goal by Dan Hudson, who lifted the puck past Oakland goaltender Kyle Gagnon on a shorthanded breakaway after Adrian's Eddie Schaeffer had been sent to the penalty box for high-sticking.
Shortly after the Hudson goal, the Bulldogs Scotty Millen was whistled for slashing, creating a five on three advantage for the Golden Grizzlies, and while the Bulldogs were able to kill off the remainder of the Schaeffer penalty, Rosales scored his second goal of the game on the power-play before Millen was released, to give Oakland a 2-1 advantage after the first period.
Adrian's Jack Clary scored the only goal of the second period, with an assist from Myles Maltz, which would turn out to be the final goal of the contest, as both the third period and overtime stanza failed to produce a goal to break the deadlock.
The goaltenders, who were perfect over the game's final 34:48, were Adrian's Austyn Roudebush and Oakland's Kyle Gagnon, as Roudebush turned away 36 shots and Gagnon rappelled 31 Bulldog attempts on the afternoon.
Adrian will now try to capitalize on the momentum earned this weekend against Oakland as they embark on the final six games of the regular season starting Thursday night at Arrington Ice Arena when they face the University of Michigan-Flint at 7 PM.
