ADRIAN, Mich.--The Adrian College ACHA Gold men's hockey squad improved its record to 2-0 on the young season with an impressive 10-0 victory over the Northwood Timberwolves at Arrington ice Arena on Thursday night.
The Bulldogs were led by Alex Egan, (Howell, MI) who scored three times to earn a hat trick for Adrian, as they pummeled Timberwolves goalie Dominic Orlando with 76 shots on goal.
The game was close early until Northwood’s Cam Colin and Jordan Galloway were each sent to the penalty box at 11:28 of the first period, giving the Bulldogs a five-on-three advantage. Adrian connected twice in the next two minutes on a pair of goals by Egan with assist from Gerin Hohl (Victoria, BC) and Myles Maltz (Matawan, MI) to take a 2-0 advantage. Adrian would score twice more in the first period on Tyler Grimshaw’s (Oswego, NY) third goal of the season and a final marker by Paul Gorski (Wheaton, IL).
The Bulldogs continued to add on to their lead by scoring three times in both the second and third periods, as six different players scored for Adrian. Jake Waldrup, (Dexter, MI) Daniel Hudson, (Gregory, MI) and John Urmetz (Seven Hills, OH) scored their first goals of the season in period number two, pushing the Bulldog lead to 7-0 at the second intermission, while Mario Tomei, (Livonia, MI) Kyle Schulz (Harrison Township, MI) and Egan rounded out the scoring in the third period to make the final 10-0. For Tomei and Schulz the goals were their first of the season.
Earning the shutout and his second win of the year was Bulldog goaltender Justin Lindgren (Hannahan, SC), who was tested just 12 times by the Timberwolves offense. It was a different story at the other end of the ice, however, as Orlando made 66 saves on the evening.
The win pushes the Bulldogs record to 2-0, while Northwood falls to 0-1. Adrian’s next action will be next weekend when they take on the Central Michigan Chippewas in a home and home series beginning on Friday night in Mount Pleasant. The series will move back to Adrian on Saturday evening with a 7 o’clock face-off at Arrington Ice Arena.
