ADRIAN, Mich.--Adrian’s Trevor Benaglio scored a pair of goals while Joe Leskero added a goal and two assists to lead the ACHA Gold team to an exhibition 5-0 win over the visiting Detroit Fighting Irish at Arrington Ice Arena on Thursday night.
Adrian took an early 1-0 lead just 3 minutes and 30 seconds into the contest as Benaglio scored his first goal with an assists from Leskero and Mario Tomei. The score remained 1-0 until Zack McKay scored a power-play goal for the only marker of the second period, making the score 2-0 at the end of 40 minutes of play.
Adrian dominated play in the third, however, scoring three unanswered goals to put the contest away. Leskero and Benaglio teamed up for a pair of goals just 47 seconds apart to give Adrian a 4-0 lead, with Leskero scoring 8:45 into the third with an assist from Benaglio and then Leskero returned the favor with a helper on the Benaglio goal at the 9:32 mark. Andy Petersmark scored the Bulldogs final goal with 7:15 remaining to end the scoring and give the Bulldogs the 5-0 win.
Adrian goaltender’s Justin Lindgren and Will Emch split the net minding duties for Adrian in the exhibition contest, with Lindgren making 10 saves in the first 30 minutes and Emch stopping five shots the rest of the way to preserve the shutout for the Bulldogs.
The Bulldogs outshot the Fighting Irish 53-15 in the contest, as McKay and Matt Heim added assists on the score sheet for the Bulldogs.
The Bulldogs will open their regular season on October 8 when they travel to the University of Michigan to take on the Wolverines in the first of a two-game series, with game two slated for Sunday afternoon October 9 at Arrington Ice Arena starting at 2 p.m.
