ADRIAN, Mich. - The Adrian College ACHA Gold Hockey team hosted an undermanned Indiana Tech team on Thursday night and dominated from the opening faceoff, as the Bulldogs took care of the Warriors by a score of 14-1.
Adrian scored three times in the opening period and led 6-1 after 40 minutes, but the Bulldogs really took advantage of the Warriors in the third period, outscoring Indiana Tech 8-0 in the final 20 minutes.
Adrian’s Tyler Grimshaw (Oswego, N.Y.) and Nick Bordeaux (Warren, Mich.) scored hat tricks while Mario Tomei (Livonia, Mich.) and Myles Maltz (Mattawan, Mich.) each scored a pair of goals during the onslaught. Adrian also received single goals from Tyler Sutton (Grand Blanc, Mich.), Daniel Hudson (Gregory, Mich.), Jack Clary (Grand Blanc, Mich.) and Nick Hocker (Oxford, Mich.).
Adrian led 5-0 about midway through the second period when Jace Childs struck for Indiana Tech’s only goal, spoiling a shutout bid by Adrian goaltender Justin Lindgren (Hanahan, S.C.) who made 16 saves in the contest.
The 14 goals by Adrian represents their second highest total of the season, their highest total since their 15-0 win over Davenport on November 1.
Adrian now must ready themselves for a critical weekend showdown with the Oakland University Grizzlies. Game one of the series will be contested on Saturday at the Detroit Skating Club at 2 p.m. The two teams will then return to Adrian for a Sunday matinee starting at 2 p.m.
