ADRIAN, Mich. - The Adrian College ACHA Division III Gold Hockey team returned to the ice for the first time in 2015 on Thursday night earning a tough 4-2 win over the University of Michigan-Flint at Arrington Ice Arena.
Adrian’s Nick Reuter (Parker, Colo.) scored a pair of goals to lead Adrian to the win, as Gerin Hohl (Victoria, B.C.) picked up three assists for the Bulldogs, and Josh Dollinger (Montreal, Que.) had two helpers for Adrian.
UM-Flint scored the game’s first goal on a power play a little over seven minutes into the game, but goals by Jack Clary (Grand Blanc, Mich.) and Reuter to close out the first period put Adrian up 2-1.
UM-Flint’s Austin Hill scored the only goal of the second period to tie the game at 2-2 heading into the final 20 minutes.
Adrian took control of the contest early in the third period, however, as Alex Egan (Howell, Mich.) netted what would turn out to be the game-winner just 3:08 into the period and Reuter would tally his second goal to add insurance with help from Hohl and Dollinger just 1:20 later.
UM-Flint was presented with chances to come back in the game’s later stages, with Adrian killing off a five-minute major penalty and five minor penalties, as the Bulldogs' Rick Hennard (Royal Oak, Mich.) turned away 27 shots, including 12 in the final period for the win.
The victory lifts the Gold team’s record to 10-6-1 on the season as the Bulldogs get ready for two road games this weekend, where they will face Michigan State on Saturday at 5 p.m. from MSU’s Munn Arena and then face UM-Flint again on Sunday in Flint at Perani’s Arena, also at 5 p.m.
