SOUTHFIELD, Mich.--In a hard fought game which saw 103 minutes in penalties, the visiting Adrian Bulldogs American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA) Division 3 men's squad topped the Lawrence Tech Blue Devils 5-3 Sunday afternoon at the Southfield Ice Arena.
The first period ended with the Blue Devils ahead 2-1 as a power play goal by Adrian’s Michael Butler was sandwiched between two Lawrence Tech goals from Josh Bauer and Dillon Tierney which were both caused by uncharacteristic Bulldog giveaways in their end.
In the second period the Bulldogs outscored the Blue Devils 2-1 to end the period with the teams knotted at 3. An early goal from the Blue Devils Adam Parker was answered by goals from Adrian’s Mathieu Barrette and Henry Gabriel. The story of the second period was the fine defensive play by the Bulldogs killing off multiple penalties including at one point the defensive pair of Tim Foley and Tomas Hornicek killing off a full two minutes of a 5-on-3 with help from the top penalty killer goalie Will Emch.
In the third period, the Bulldogs pulled away with two goals from Wade Herbert and Braden Steele to complete the 5-3 victory. The Bulldogs outshot the Blue Devils 38 to 25.
The win raises the Bulldogs' record to 6-4-1. Their next home game will be this Sunday the 18th at Arrington Ice Arena against Central Michigan University.
