Conall McNelis has been appointed as the new head coach of the American Collegiate Hockey Association Division 3 men's program at Adrian College, as announced by Director of Athletics Michael Duffy. McNelis also will assist national coach of the year Gary Astalos with the ACHA Division 1 team that won the national crown last March.

A Colts Neck, N.J. product, McNelis comes to Adrian after serving as the assistant coach for the Red Bank Catholic High School boys hockey team for the past two years. He also worked as a hockey data analyst for Clear Sight Analytics, which is owned by former National Hockey League player Steve Valaquete.

McNelis became known as the youngest head coach in Red Bank Generals amateur hockey history, leading the pee wee division.

He also played hockey in the Red Bank community for the Generals and Catholic.

McNelis played club roller hockey at Syracuse University. He was the team's captain and president for two years, a three-time Eastern Collegiate Roller Hockey Association All Star, 2015-16 ECRHA Team Representative of the Year while wrapping up his career as the second all-time scoring leader in program history. He helped Syracuse to its first-ever national championship appearance.

“Coaching hockey has been in my blood since I was a young player. It was the obvious next step for me after I stopped playing," McNelis stated. "I have so much passion for the game and it was important for me to coach at a school that shared that passion. Adrian College has such a tremendous tradition of great hockey and it is such a privilege for me to be joining an amazing school and staff. I will bring a lot of energy and enthusiasm to the bench. I cannot wait for the season to start.”

Astalos added: "Conall’s passion for the game is easily noticed. He is not only an excellent coach, but an excellent person. I could not be happier to have Conall join our coaching staff."
