ADRIAN, Mich. – The men's hockey team (13-1-2, 9-0-2) stayed unbeaten in Midwest Collegiate Hockey Association play by blanking Marian University (7-8-1, 6-5), 6-0, Friday night at the Arrington Ice Arena.
Captain Andrew Dovey continued his scoring streak with a pair of goals- including the game winner- and goaltender Scott Shackell registered his first shutout of the season by turning aside 22 shots to lead the Bulldogs.
Five Adrian players recorded multiple-point games. In addition to Dovey's two goals, Shaquille Merasty had a goal and an assist; while Zach Graham, Shelby Gray and Josh Cousineau added three points apiece.
The Bulldog power play went 2-for-3, while stopping six Sabre power plays.
Playing in his 100th game, Graham assisted on the game winner and on both power-play goals to give him 148 career points.
Adrian outshot Marian, 37-23.
The Bulldogs scored three first-period goals including a goal on their first shot just 19 seconds into the game by Dovey. Merasty would net his team-leading 13th goal about eight minutes into the period before Lukas Ciotti would score his sixth of the year with just four ticks left in the first.
The Bulldogs would up their lead to 5-0 after the second period with two power-play tallies in the middle stanza. Gray would net his ninth goal midway through the period and Dovey would score his second of the night about four minutes later. Dovey would extend his goal-scoring streak to five games with his ninth and 10th tallies on the year.
Cousineau would round out the scoring just over a minute into the final period for the 6-0 final.
Marian played some of its best hockey of the season last week by upsetting the Milwaukee School of Engineering and knocking them from the national rankings.
Sabre goaltender Josh Baker- who allowed all six Bulldog goals- was named MCHA Defensive Player of the Week last week.
These same two teams will go at it again at 3 p.m. tomorrow (Saturday).
