ADRIAN, Mich. - The Adrian College men's hockey team received an at-large bid into the 2014 NCAA Division III Tournament field of 11 teams on Sunday night. After posting a 22-2-4 record, the Bulldogs had to hope for the best after dropping out of the NCHA Harris Cup semifinals on Mar. 1 with a 4-3 loss to St. Scholastica at Arrington Ice Arena.
Adrian will travel to fellow NCHA member St. Norbert (25-3-1) on Saturday, Mar. 15 in a quarterfinal matchup set for 8 p.m. ET (7 p.m. CT) from Cornerstone Community Center in Ashwaubenon, Wisconsin. The two teams split a two-game series earlier this season at St. Norbert. The Bulldogs and Green Knights entered the series at the top two ranked teams in Division III. St. Norbert cruised to an 11-1 win on Jan. 31 and Adrian returned the favor with a 4-1 win on Feb. 1.
The two schools have met twice before in the NCAA Tournament. St. Norbert has won both previous meetings coming Mar. 10, 2010 with a 4-3 win at home in the first round and then another 4-3 decision in the 2011 national championship game in Minneapolis, Minn. at Ridder Arena on Mar. 26.
The winner of the contest on Saturday will advance to the 2014 Men's Frozen Four which will be held March 21 & 22 at Androscoggin Bank Colisee in Lewiston, Maine.
