ADRIAN, Mich. – It was another top-notch performance for the men's hockey team from Adrian College on Saturday afternoon with a 7-2 win over Marian (Wis.) in Northern Collegiate Hockey Association action. The win improves the Bulldogs to 10-2 overall and 8-0 in the conference. The Sabres are now 5-6 overall and 2-6 in the league.
Senior forward Duston Hebebrand scored a hat trick in this one increasing his season total to seven. He notched an even strength goal at 4:38 of the second and then added a short-handed goal at 6:40 of the second and a power play goal at 7:08 of the third. Senior forward Josh Ranalli scored his ninth of the season to open the scoring for the Bulldogs at 8:44 of the first after Marian scored just 35 seconds into the contest on a defensive turnover by the Bulldogs.
Senior goaltender Scott Shackell made several great saves to keep his team tied and then in the lead in the first period. Adrian took a 2-1 lead at 9:01 of the first as Austin Hervey scored his second of the season. Adrian added four goals in the second as Kyle Brothers and Taylor McCloy also scored in the period. Brothers and McCloy each scored on the power play as Adrian finished 3-for-8. Shackell finished with 34 saves and freshman Dillon Kelley finished out the game in 10:38 of ice time and made three saves.
Freshman forward Austin Rust and sophomore forward Brett Pinkerton each had a pair of assists. Jeremy Olinyk and Brothers also each had two assists in the game. Mike Baldwin played 23:58 in net for Marian and allowed four goals before being replaced by Mike Gudmandson. Gudmandson made 13 saves and allowed three goals.
