ADRIAN, Mich. – Scott Shackell for Adrian and Nick Horrigan for Geneseo put on a clinic Tuesday (Jan. 6) at Arrington Ice Arena in a 0-0 overtime tie. Both goaltenders made great saves during the course of the game and kept the other team off the scoreboard. Horrigan stopped 35 shots including 14 in the third period and Shackell stopped 22 shots including a pair of overtime. Horrigan posted his third shutout of the season and it was Shackell's second.
Adrian had more opportunities to score on the power play but went 0-for-5 with a total of eight shots on goal. It was just the third game this season that they failed to score a power play goal. Geneseo went 0-for-2 but did not have a chance in the third period or overtime. Freshman Mathew Thompson probably had the best chance to break the tie in the third period missing a wide-open net near the left faceoff circle with about 12 minutes to play. Adrian ended the third period after a timeout with 18.5 seconds left with a flurry of pressure on Horrigan. He lost his stick with about 10 seconds left but still managed to stop a hard shot from Jake Flegel with his chest. Geneseo had a great deal of pressure on Shackell in the last minute of overtime but without any fanfare.
Thompson recorded seven shots on goal for the contest for the Bulldogs. Trevor Hills led the Knights with five shots on net. Adrian is now 10-2-1 overall and Geneseo is 6-4-2.
