Ranalli Paces Bulldogs in 7-3 Win at Finlandia

HANCOCK, Mich. – The offense returned on Saturday afternoon for the Adrian College men's hockey team. The Bulldogs were shutout in Friday night's upset loss at Finlandia, but regained their scoring prowess in a 7-3 win over the Lions. Senior forward Josh Ranalli stepped up with four points and scored twice including the game-winning goal early in the third period. Ranalli scored 4:08 into the first period with assists from Jeremy Olinyk and Kevin Balas. The Lions tied it up just 51 seconds later as Ryan Daavettila scored his first of the season.

Adrian scored the first two goals of the second period to take a 3-1 lead. Jake Flegel scored his first goal of the season and second of his career at 10:21 from Olinyk and Ranalli. It took just 50 seconds for Adrian to put another one in the net on Kyle Brothers 14th of the season on the power play from Ranalli and Austin Hervey. Finlandia scored the final goal of the second as Lucas Lahnala cut the lead to 3-2 with just nine seconds remaining on an unassisted tally.

The Bulldogs scored four times in the final period including the first three goals of the stanza to build a 6-2 advantage. Ranalli's 12th of the season and 58th career goal at 1:25 proved to be the game-winner with assists from David Haaf and Olinyk collecting his third helper of the game. Pat George scored his second of the season at 11:48 on the power play from Adam Davies and Austin Rust. Hervey then added his fourth this season at 15:54 from Micki Mihailovich and Brothers. Daavettila scored again for the Lions at 18:47 from Scott Vargas followed by Balas notching his fourth this season at 19:42 on the power play from Grant Telfer.

Freshman Dillon Kelley got his first career start between the pipes for the Bulldogs and improved to 2-0 this season. He stopped 12 shots as Finlandia went 0-for-6 on the power play. Adrian outshot Finlandia, 50-15, including a strong start of 17-2 in the first. The Bulldogs (13-3-3, 10-1-1) will now set their sights on No. 1 St. Norbert who will be making their first trip to Arrington Ice Arena this weekend.
