No. 2/4 Adrian Closes Fall Semester with a 2-1 Victory at Nazareth College in Upstate New York

ROCHESTER, N.Y.--Junior defenseman Michael Hoy scored the go-ahead goal with 1 minute and 53 seconds remaining in the second period to lift nationally-ranked Adrian College (No. 2 D3hockey, No. 4 USCHO) over host Nazareth College, 2-1, in a non-conference men's hockey contest on Saturday at the Bill Gray's Regional Iceplex.

With the win, Adrian ends the fall semester on a nine-game unbeaten streak (8 wins with a tie) to improve to 8-1-1 overall. Nazareth, which competes in the Eastern College Athletic Conference West, falls to 2-5-4 on the season.

Hoy was given credit for a game-winning goal after off a rebound for his first goal of the season. Juniors Austin Hervey and alternate captain Daniel Lisi earned assists on the play.

Geoff Bagnall nearly put Nazareth on the scoreboard early in the second period as his shot hit the post. The Golden Flyers eventually broke through at the midway point, as Oliver Janzen threaded a long pass ahead to Dominik Gabaj, who went backhand to forehand past the Adrian goaltender to tie the game at 1. Bagnall also earned an assist on the goal.

Adrian freshman goalie Kevin Entmaa (6-0) turned aside 27 of 28 shots he faced, while Ed Zdolshek finished with 39 saves in net for the Golden Flyers.

Senior Pat George put the visiting Bulldogs on the scoreboard first in the opening stanza when he deposited his first goal of the season at the 3:31 mark.  Lisi and senior captain Adam Davies were given the assists.

A physical tone was set from the get-go and each team was charged with four penalties in the opening period. Nazareth managed to kill-off a 5-on-3 to keep the deficit at one goal after 20 minutes. For the game, Nazareth was 0-7 on the power play, while Adrian was 0-8, as the teams combined for 30 minutes in penalties.

A total of 30 shots were taken in the final period, 17 for Adrian and 13 for Nazareth, but no team found the back of the net. In all, the Bulldogs peppered the Golden Flyers by a 41-28 margin.

After completing final exams this week, Adrian resumes the 2015-16 schedule just after New Year's Day when the Bulldogs return to Upstate New York to play in the Jan. 2-3 Pathfinder Bank Oswego Classic, which also includes Williams College (Saturday at 4 p.m.), Castleton State and the host Lakers (either team on Sunday at 1/4 p.m.).

Nazareth returns to the ice on Jan. 1 when it will square off against Colby College at 4 p.m. in the Plattsburgh State (N.Y.) Tournament.
