ADRIAN, Mich.--Adrian College defenseman Cory Dunn (Trenton, Mich./Austin Bruins, NAHL) is the only freshman named to the 2016 HERO Sports NCAA Division III Men's Ice Hockey All-America Team, it was announced on Monday.
Last month, Dunn was selected second-team CCM Division III All-America by the American Hockey Coaches Association.
Dunn made HERO Sports' listing for good reason. He dished out 25 assists, good for 10th in the nation overall and first among defensemen. He ended the season with at least one assist in 10 of his final 11 games.
He helped the Bulldogs sweep the regular-season (Peters Cup) and tournament (Harris Cup) titles in the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association with a 24-4-1 overall record and 17-2-1 NCHA ledger. Adrian earned its fourth NCAA tournament appearance in a row and sixth overall since it began play during the 2007-08 season, and finished fourth in both final national polls.
Dunn's immediate impact also was recognized with more postseason accolades: All-NCHA Team, conference all-freshmen squad, NCHA Harris Cup All-Tournament Team, and a three-time D3hockey.com National Team of the Week choice.
The accounting major chipped in six goals among 31 points as one of the nation's most prolific scorers. He led the NCHA and Division III with 25 assists and 31 points from the point--totals that also were in the top-10 at the conference and national levels for rookie marks. In the NCHA, Dunn was tied for 11th in overall scoring.
HERO Sports All-America selections, which are split into an East and a West team, are players chosen for a combination of both individual and team successes.
