BLOOMINGTON, Minn.--Senior defenseman Chris Leone (Dearborn Heights, Mich./Kalamazoo Jr. K-Wings, NAHL) and sophomore center Mathew Thompson (Bolton, Ontario/Trenton Golden Hawks, OJHL) have been named to the inaugural D3hockey.com Team of the Week, the website announced on Tuesday.
An alternate captain, Leone (pictured, right) was one of only two players in the nation selected at his position. He led Bulldog blueliners with three points on a goal and two assists and recorded a plus-5 rating through four games. In an 11-2 win versus Northland on Saturday, he tied a career high with three points. His power-play goal at the 11:16 mark of the first period gave Adrian the lead for good at 2-1. He also helped the Bulldogs defensive unit limit the Lumberjacks to 17 shots after the visitors were able to generate 28 in the series opener. Leone has 47 points in 84 career games.
Thompson was one of three forwards chosen by D3hockey. He leads nationally-ranked Adrian in goals with five and is tied for the team lead with nine points, with wins against Milwaukee School of Engineering (5-3) and Northland twice (5-1, 11-2). He also has compiled a plus-7 rating to pace the squad. He is averaging almost a goal a game (.875) in his 32-game career which includes 52 points.
The Bulldogs, who have risen two spots to No. 5 in the D3hockey Top-15 and hold steady at No. 6 in the current USCHO.com ratings, take a 3-1 overall and Northern Collegiate Hockey Association record into their games this weekend at NCHA member Marian (Wis.).
