Austin Hervey Inks Professional Contract with Indianapolis Fuel

Indy Fuel news release

INDIANAPOLIS – The Indy Fuel, an East Coast Hockey League affiliate of the NHL's Chicago Blackhawks and the American Hockey League's Rockford IceHogs, announced Friday that they have signed former Adrian College forward Austin Hervey to an amateur tryout agreement (ATO).

Hervey will be available for Indy's three-game weekend which begins later tonight at the Toledo Walleye. Hervey, 24, is set to make his professional debut after completing his collegiate career with the Bulldogs this spring. The 6-foot-2, 228-pound wing from Brighton, Mich., tallied 27 goals and 25 assists in 100 career games with Adrian, helping the Bulldogs to NCAA tournament appearances in each of his four years in the program. Prior to going to school, Hervey spent the 2012-13 campaign with the United States Hockey League's Indiana Ice, where he played alongside current Fuel forward Woody Hudson.

"I'll be with the team until the end of their season, and hope that springboards into signing a free agent contract for the 2017-18 season," Hervey said. "Later this spring, I'll return to campus to finish school and get my degree."

Adrian coach Adam Krug '12 added: "Congratulations to Austin and we wish him nothing but success at the pro level. Austin came to the rink every day as a pro during my time with him in the USHL and that continued during our time together at Adrian. He was one of the first guys in the locker room and one of the last to leave each day. Austin will have an opportunity to prove himself as a solid two-way forward.

"We will miss him here for sure."

In January, Hervey was named one of 15 semifinalists for the 2017 Hockey Humanitarian Award, presented by BNY Mellon Wealth Management. The award is given annually to male or female college hockey's finest citizen — a student-athlete who makes significant contributions not only to his or her team, but also to the community-at-large through leadership in volunteerism. The award symbolizes true humanitarian spirit.

Hervey, who majors in accounting with a minor in mathematics, is the only Northern Collegiate Hockey Association representative and one of just two NCAA Division III players on the final-15 Award list. He emerged from an overall field of more than 75 submissions, and is among the final 11 on the men's side.

In the classroom, Hervey is a three-time Academic All-NCHA pick and College Sports Information Directors of America Academic All-America nominee, Hervey carries a 3.8 cumulative grade-point average. He has made the Dean's List every semester at Adrian.

Hervey is an active member of both the College and greater Adrian communities. He has served a variety of charitable organizations during his time with the Bulldogs, including Cash Mob fundraiser with Goodwill Industries of Lenawee County, skating coach volunteer for the Adrian Youth Hockey Association, "Learn to Skate" instructor and the Movemeber Foundation, leading the planning and organizing of donations collected by Adrian College Men's Ice Hockey. In addition, he has worked several contest management events as a public address announcer.

As a senior, Hervey scored eight goals among 14 points in 28 games played.

During his junior campaign, Hervey registered 11 goals and nine assists for 20 points--all career highs. He was named to the Harris Cup All-Tournament Team after a terrific conference postseason that included three goals, 13 shots and a plus-6 rating, and he helped the Bulldogs to their second-straight NCHA championship.

All told, Bulldog Hockey has produced over a dozen players have signed professional contracts to compete at the next level since the program was established for the 2007-08 campaign.
