MINNEAPOLIS--After a home sweep of Northern Collegiate Hockey Association opponents Finlandia and then-No. 3 ranked St. Norbert, Adrian College has vaulted to No. 2 in the latest United States College Hockey Online poll for NCAA Division III men's ice hockey. The Bulldogs earned five first-place votes and 281 points to climb two spots. In addition, Adrian also jumped two rungs to No. 2 in the Bloomington, Minn.-based D3hockey.com national rankings with 287 points (7 first-place votes).
On Friday, Adrian scored three goals on the power play en route to a convincing 5-1 victory against the Lions. Then on Saturday, the Bulldogs stormed back from a three-goal deficit in the final 17 minutes of regulation to eventually beat the defending national champion SNC Green Knights in overtime, 4-3. Senior Bryan Yim scored the tying goal late in regulation and the game-winner 1 minute and 45 seconds into overtime.
Wisconsin-Stevens Point (5-0-1) is ranked No. 1 in the nation according to both polls, receiving 14 first-place votes among 292 points by USCHO.com and 13 top votes among 291 by D3hockey.
The Bulldogs (5-1, 3-1 NCHA) are led in scoring by senior captain Cory Dunn from his position on defense, netting 10 points on three goals and seven assists to lead the conference. Yim tops the NCHA with six goals. Senior goalie Kevin Entmaa is 5-1 with a .933 save percentage and 1.50 goals-against average.
Adrian hits the ice again this weekend with a home-and-home series against conference foe Trine, hosting the Thunder on Friday (7:05 p.m.; GET TICKETS) before traveling to Angola, Ind., on Saturday (7 p.m.). The Thunder gave top-ranked UWSP its only blemish of the season so far, a 2-2 tie at home on Oct. 27.
