DULUTH, Minn.--Adrian College sophomore goalie Nikita Babintsev (Birmingham, Mich./Amarillo Bulls, NAHL) has been named the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association Defensive Player of the Week for the first time in his career, the NCHA league office announced on Tuesday.
Babintsev contributed in a big way after stepping into the starting lineup following an injury to four-year starter Kevin Entmaa earlier this month, helping the Bulldogs top Milwaukee School of Engineering (3-1 on Friday) and Concordia-Wisconsin (5-3 on Saturday) at home. For the week, he compiled a 2-0 record, 1.08 goals-against average and .953 save percentage in 110 minutes and 38 seconds of action. He was particularly solid against the Falcons, making several sprawling glove saves among 21 stops in 50 minutes, while allowing just one goal.
Babintsev is 3-0 with a 1.08 GAA and .948 save percentage on the season. For his career, the management major is 4-1 in six appearances with a 1.77 GAA and .917 save percentage.
Adrian, which is nationally-ranked seventh by seventh by United States College Hockey Online (154 points) and eighth by D3hockey.com (154), has a couple of key NCHA road contests this weekend at No. 6/6 St. Norbert (Friday at 8 p.m. ET) and at Finlandia (Saturday at 3:15 p.m.). The Bulldogs have won three in a row by a combined score of 11-5.
