ADRIAN, Mich.--The Adrian College men’s hockey team (1-0-1 overall) travels to Fond Du Lac, Wis., this weekend to take on the Marian University Sabres in the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association openers for both teams. The nationally No. 8-ranked Bulldogs look to avenge last season’s 4-1 loss despite outshooting the Sabres 47-19 at Arrington Ice Arena. The Adrian offense will be tested this weekend as the Sabres return All-American and NCHA Player of the Year senior goaltender Hunter Vorva.
Last weekend, the Bulldogs won the Buffalo State Bengal Classic after defeating Nichols College, 5-1, on Friday and ousting then-No. 15 Manhattanville College in a 1-0 shootout (after a 3-3 tie) in the championship game. The Bulldogs are led up front by sophomore forwards Sam Ruffin (2g, 1a) and Andrew Bellant (1g, 2a) with three points apiece. Junior goaltender and reigning NCHA Defensive Player of the Week Cameron Gray is 1-0-1 with a 1.92 goals-against average and .918 save percentage.
Marian edged Wisconsin-Stout at home, 5-4, in its season opener on Nov. 2. Sophomore forward Yuri Chernichko tops the squad with two goals.
