DULUTH, Minn.--For the third time in his career, Adrian College senior forward Dino Balsamo (Sterling Heights, Mich./Aston Rebels, NAHL/Bentley University) has been named the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association Offensive Player of the Week after leading No. 9-ranked Adrian with five goals and six points in a weekend split against a Marian team that is receiving votes in the national poll. That announcement was made Tuesday by the NCHA office.
In Friday's 6-3 loss, he posted two goals and an assist. He gave Adrian a 2-0 lead and assisted on the game-tying power play goal 3-3 in the third period. In Saturday's 5-4 win, he registered his second career hat trick. He scored two second-period goals (including one on the power play) to put the Bulldogs ahead for good at 3-2.
Balsamo also took over the NCHA goal-scoring lead with six goals on the season and leads the Bulldogs with eight total points.
For his 76-game career with the Bulldogs after transferring from NCAA Division I Bentley University in the middle of his 2016-17 freshman campaign, Balsamo has compiled 76 points on 33 goals and 43 assists. Including nine appearances with the Falcons, he has 35+44=79 scoring totals in his collegiate career.
This is the second consecutive week that a Bulldog has been cited by the NCHA as junior goaltender Cameron Gray earned defensive player of the week honors on Nov. 5.
Adrian returns to the friendly confines of Arrington Ice Arena this weekend for its home-opening series against NCHA foe Finlandia University. Friday's game is for a 7:05 p.m. puckdrop, followed by Saturday's at 3:05 p.m.
