ADRIAN, Mich. - It was a fast start for the Adrian Bulldogs Men's Lacrosse team as they scored five first quarter goals on the way to a 10-3 victory over Oberlin. With the win, Adrian improves to 3-1 (1-0 MLC) on the young season.
Senior T.J. Cook scored the first three goals in the game, as the Bulldogs led 3-0 halfway through the first quarter. Senior Mitch Barnard and junior Coady Adamson also scored goals in the first as the Bulldogs led 5-0 after the first 15 minutes of play. The goals for Cook ran his season total up to seven, as Barnard scored his eighth on the year while Adamson added his seventh.
Adrian picked up right where it left off in the second quarter, scoring four goals in the period while only allowing one. Sophomore Cody Kilcoyne scored two goals in the period, giving him four on the year, while senior David Monroe and junior John Hudzinski also managed to find the net in the second quarter.
Sophomore Kevin Lerg got the win at goalie for the Bulldogs, saving five shots while only giving up one goal. Lerg is now 3-1 on the season, and was named MLC Goalie of the Week earlier this week.
Oberlin outshot Adrian 25-21 on the game, but the Bulldogs held a considerable advantage in net, as Lerg and Matthew Neal saved nine shots while the Yeomen saved just two. Adrian's defense did well in extra-man opportunities, as they held Oberlin to just one goal in five attempts.
It will be two days off for the Bulldogs, as they will host Concordia (Wis.) on Sunday. The MLC Conference game will start at 1:00 pm from the Performance Stadium at Adrian College.
