ADRIAN, Mich. - It didn't take long for the best team in the Midwest Lacrosse Conference (MLC) to prove its worth as the Bulldogs jumped out to an early lead in the 14-3 victory over Otterbein. The regular season MLC champion Bulldogs scored four first quarter goals and allowed only one goal in the first half as Adrian is now 15-1 and winners of 14 straight games.
Senior Tyler Tanguay started Senior Night off right, scoring a goal in the first minute of the game, giving the Bulldogs the early lead. A mere 48 seconds after the Tanguay goal, Cody Kilcoyne found the net unassisted, followed by a John Hudzinski goal at the 12:14 mark, making the score 3-0 less than three minutes into the game.
Senior T.J. Cook scored another goal for Adrian in the first quarter, as the Bulldogs had a 4-0 lead out of the gates. Adrian added three more goals in the second quarter, while goalie Kevin Lerg only surrendered one goal from Otterbein in the first half.
Otterbein was the first team to strike at the beginning of the third quarter, making the score 7-2 at the 12:33 mark in the period. After that, the Bulldogs rattled off six consecutive goals, making the game out of reach for the Cardinals.
Lerg had a great performance at goalie in the sophomore's regular season home finale. Lerg gave up only three goals while saving 12 shots for the Bulldogs.
Since the Bulldogs were the regular-season MLC Champions, Adrian will now look ahead to hosting the MLC Tournament. The Bulldogs will play host on May 2nd in the semi-finals of the tournament against either Trine, Carthage, or Concordia (Wis.) depending on this weekend's outcomes.
If Adrian were to win in the semi-final round, they would host a game again on Saturday, May 5. Of the three opponents, Carthage played the closest game with Adrian, losing 13-7 during a road game for the Bulldogs.
