ADRIAN, Mich. - With a 16-1 overall record and a spot in the Midwest Lacrosse Conference (MLC) championship game to be played tomorrow, it is no surprise the Adrian Bulldogs have 10 players that were named to the 2012 MLC All-Conference Team. Adrian and its 10 All-MLC players will take on Aurora tomorrow at noon for the MLC Title.
Senior midfielder Mitch Barnard (Springwater Township, Ont./Eastview) has scored 21 points on 15 goals and six assists, but has been a beast during face-offs. Barnard is among the national leaders in face-off win percentage, as he has gone 178-for-258 for a .690 winning percentage, which is third-best in D-III. Barnard is 15th nationally with 7.88 ground balls per game. This is the second-straight year Barnard has earned first-team honors.
David Monroe (Ann Arbor, Mich./Huron) has led the attack for the Bulldogs, scoring 65 points on the year on 31 goals and 34 assists. Monroe is currently 35th nationally with 1.94 assists per game. This is the third consecutive season in which Monroe has earned first-team honors.
While junior Coady Adamson (Bowmanville, Ont./St. Stephens) has yet to start a game for the Bulldogs, he has been a scoring threat on attack every game. Adamson leads the Bulldogs with 39 goals, while totaling 59 points on the season, second only to Monroe.
The high-powered offense for the Bulldogs can over-shadow the tough defense, led by junior Brandon MacDonald. The first-team All-MLC selection was tops on the team with 29 caused turnovers for the year, while grabbing 42 ground balls. This is the second-straight year MacDonald (Midhurst, Ont./Eastview Secondary School) has earned first-team honors.
A lacrosse team can only be as good as its goalie, and luckily for Adrian, Kevin Lerg (Farmington Hills, Mich./Detroit Catholic Central) has had a great season. The first-team selection most importantly posted a 16-1 record, but also is ranked 16th nationally with a .621 save percentage. Lerg has saved 149 shots on the year, while only allowing 91 goals.
