GRANVILLE, Ohio - Sixty minutes were not enough for Adrian and Denison in the first round of the NCAA Championships as the two went to overtime, and then a second overtime. A Denison goal less than a minute into the second overtime ended the Bulldogs season, as Denison overtook Adrian, 12-11.
Adrian came out as the team to beat in the first quarter when John Hudzinski scored the first Bulldog goal giving Adrian the 1-0 lead. T.J. Cook and Cody Kilcoyne added goals later in the first as Adrian led 3-1 after 15 minutes of play.
Denison turned the tide in the second quarter, out-scoring Adrian 6-4 for the period. The Bulldogs got another Hudzinski goal with 41 seconds left, but a faceoff win paired with a late goal for Denison tied the score going into halftime.
With the game tied 10-10 and under two minutes left, Cook found Hudzinski who got the ball to the back of the net with 1:19 left to go up by one.
The Bulldogs would lose yet another faceoff which led to yet another goal for Denison. Alex Hardt for the Big Red would score with 1:01 left to force overtime.
After a scoreless first overtime period, Denison was able to work the ball to Cory Couture who would score the goal that ended the Bulldogs season.
Cook and Hudzinski finished with three goals each while Adamson added two. Mitch Barnard went a mere 12-for-28 on faceoffs for the Bulldogs.
The MLC regular season and tournament champions, Adrian will finish the season 17-2.
