ADRIAN, Mich. - The field was cleaned off from the harsh winter in anticipation of the men's lacrosse home opener and both teams brought their best effort in a 14-13 win for Adrian over Augustana (Ill.) College on Saturday. Adrian got in the win column for the first time in two tries this season and doubled their scoring output from their season opening loss at Wooster.

Both teams could not gain much of an upper hand throughout the contest. The largest lead by either team was a four-goal advantage for the Bulldogs in the fourth quarter and even then the Vikings came back to make it a one-possession game late in the quarter. The game was played to a 6-6 tie at intermission after 30 minutes. Tom Thielman scored twice in the first quarter and Alex Crescenti of Augustana matched it. Adrian did string together three goals in the second quarter to take a 6-5 lead. Eric Fannell, Brendan Harvey and Doug Boyd all scored over a period of 3:59 erasing a 5-3 deficit.

Adrian outscored the Vikings 4-3 in the third quarter to lead 10-9 heading into the final 15 minutes. Mitch Burgin, Nicholas Frontczak and Fannell scored in the quarter with Fannell scoring twice including the go-ahead goal with 1:53 left in the third. Adrian then would score the first three goals in the fourth to take a 13-9 lead with 10:50 to play. Drake Dailey-Chwalibog scored twice and Fannell added his fourth goal of the match.

The Bulldogs then took a couple of penalties that allowed Augustana back into the game. Frontczak took a cross-check penalty at 9:59 and Kevin Gleason scored 49 seconds later on a man-up goal to make it 13-10. Adam Gawlak then took two penalties on one play at 6:22 as Augustana's Gleason was scoring another goal to trim the lead to 13-11. Jesse Nagelberg scored the fifth man-up goal of the match for the Vikings at 5:29 to move them within one at 13-12.

Boyd scored his second goal of the game with 3:42 left which proved to be the game-winner on a pass from Dailey-Chwalibog to increase the lead back to two goals. Gleason scored his fifth goal of the game with 2:25 left with Nagelberg getting the assist to make it 14-13. The Bulldogs missed a shot with 27 seconds left and Adrian called a timeout as Augustana would possess the ball and have to move downfield quickly. Tim Fennelly crossed the midfield stripe and Cody Schmitt made the defensive play of the day knocking the ball out of Fennelly's crosse and scooped up the ball with 18 seconds left. He passed it to Fannell who ran out the clock in Adrian's offensive zone.

Kevin Lerg made 11 saves in net for the Bulldogs and his counterpart Cody Burgdorff stopped seven shots for the Vikings. Zach Kozlowski won 16-of-28 face-offs and picked up six ground balls for Adrian. Dailey-Chwalibog finished with two goals, two assists and six ground balls. The final shot total favored Adrian 34-33 and turnovers went to Augustana with four less than the Bulldogs (19-15).
