GAMBIER, Ohio – The Bulldog men's lacrosse team had their first true road game of the season on Wednesday at Kenyon College. Adrian saw a four-goal, fourth quarter lead slip away as the Lords scored the final five goals of the contest for a 13-12 win.
Kenyon started the game with a 5-2 lead early in the second quarter before the Bulldogs rattled off four straight goals in a span of 3:28 to take a 6-5 lead. Kenyon tied the game at 6-6 with 4:40 left until halftime only to see Adrian close out the half with two more goals and an 8-6 lead at the break.
Adrian increased their lead to 10-6 in the third quarter as Brett Maguire and Doug Boyd scored a pair of unassisted goals. Robert Jacobs cut the lead to 10-7 with 2:16 left in the third and trailed by three entering the fourth quarter.
Eric Fannell and Boyd scored within the first 5:52 of the fourth as Adrian enjoyed a 12-8 lead. Unfortunately that Boyd goal would be the last one for the Bulldogs. J.T. Meyer got the Kenyon comeback started with 7:12 left and then Jacobs scored a man-up goal less than a minute later. Fritz Waine scored with 5:33 remaining to cut the lead to one and then Nick Lenard tied the score at 12-12 with 3:04 to go. Waine put home the winning goal with 2:26 to play.
Cody Schmitt had a great day in the face-off circle winning 15-of-23 and also finished with five ground balls. Fannell led the team with four goals and six ground balls. Boyd scored three goals on four shots and also had a pair of ground balls. Schmitt, A.J. Smith, Ryan Findlay and Mitch Burgin also had a goal for Adrian. Brett Farrelly made 10 saves in net for the Bulldogs. The Bulldogs could not take advantage of six man-up chances in the second half and finished 1-for-7 during the game.
