FREELAND, Mich. – The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association has named Adrian College attacker Eric Fannell and defender Cody Schmitt its Players of the Week in men's lacrosse for games played through March 15.
Offensive Player of the Week
Fannell, a sophomore from St. Catharines, Ontario, Canada (St. Francis Catholic Secondary), scored 11 goals and totaled 13 points for the week as the Bulldogs split two close contests. He had four goals and an assist, scooped up six ground balls and caused two turnovers in a 13-12 loss to Kenyon, Ohio, and had seven goals and an assist as Adrian rallied from a four-goal deficit in the fourth quarter to defeat Illinois Wesleyan, 13-10. Fannell is being honored as Player of the Week for the first time this season and fourth time in his career.
Defensive Player of the Week
Schmitt, a sophomore from Champlin Park, Minn. (Champlin Park HS), won 54 percent of his faceoffs (24 of 44), picked up 10 ground balls, caused five turnovers and scored two goals in transition for the Bulldogs during the week despite battling a stomach virus. He caused four turnovers, including one that he converted into the tying goal during a fourth quarter rally, and had five ground balls as Adrian defeated Illinois Wesleyan, 13-10. He also won 15 of 23 faceoffs and picked up five ground balls in a 13-12 loss to Kenyon, Ohio. Schmitt is being honored as Player of the Week for the first time in his career.
