WESTERVILLE, Ohio – The Adrian College men's lacrosse team could not overcome a quick start on the road Saturday against Otterbein in a 13-8 loss. Nick Karapas and Doug Boyd gave Adrian a 2-1 lead with 9:53 left in the first, but then Otterbein scored the next six goals to take a 7-2 lead with 10:17 left in the second. Marcus Willis scored twice during the run to give the Cardinals a formidable advantage.
The Bulldogs would come back with three of the next four goals to cut the lead to 8-5 with 10:45 left in the third. A.J. Smith and Mitch Burgin scored man-up goals and Adam Findlay scored the goal to get within three. Willis scored the lone Cardinal goal in the third with 1:29 left and took a 9-5 lead into the final quarter.
Robbie Guiliano would score twice in the fourth with his second goal coming with 7:35 left to make it 12-7. Findlay scored twice in the quarter with the latter coming with 9:32 left. Connor Baak scored Otterbein's final goal with 6:28 left and Smith concluded the scoring for Adrian with 1:26 left from Burgin.
Adrian attempted 41 total shots but James Gundling came up with 13 big saves. John Brandon also played the final 1:56 in net for Otterbein and made three saves. Brett Farrelly stopped eight shots for the Bulldogs. Brett Maguire finished with seven ground balls. Cody Schmitt recorded eight ground balls and seven face-off wins.
