FREELAND, Mich. – The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association has announced the all-conference award winners for the 2015 season. Adrian College finished second during the regular season and placed seven student-athletes on either the first or second team this season as voted on by the league's head coaches.
Senior attack Mitch Burgin (Farmington Hills/Detroit Catholic Central HS), sophomore long stick midfielder Cody Schmitt (Champlin Park, Minn./Champlin HS) and sophomore defenseman Max Groves (Fishers, Ind./Indianapolis Bishop Chatard HS) were all named First Team All-MIAA after all receiving Second Team All-MIAA honors a year ago.
Burgin has played in 12 games this season and registered 28 goals and 13 assists. He ranks seventh in the MIAA in goals and 13th in assists. Burgin also ranks fourth in the conference with five man-up goals this season. He ranks second all-time at Adrian with nine game-winning goals and 17 man-up goals. Burgin is also third in assists (52), fourth in goals (105) and fourth in points (157).
Schmitt has made a name for himself in just two years for the Bulldogs. He has played in all 14 games this season, and despite playing primarily in the defensive zone, has five goals and four assists. He ranks sixth in the MIAA with 56 ground balls and fourth with 26 caused turnovers. He also has won a total of 64 face-offs which ranks ninth in the conference. Schmitt in just 31 career games, ranks third all-time at Adrian with 55 caused turnovers.
Groves has played in 13 games this season and recorded 38 ground balls and 21 caused turnovers. He ranks 21st in the MIAA in ground balls and 10th in caused turnovers. Groves has appeared in 30 career games and ranks fourth in Adrian history with 44 caused turnovers.
Junior attack Doug Boyd (Waterford/Orchard Lake St. Mary's HS), sophomore midfielder Adam Findlay (Livonia/Detroit Catholic Central HS), sophomore midfielder Nick Karapas (Saline/Saline HS) and senior midfielder A.J. Smith (Holland/West Ottawa HS) were all named Second Team All-MIAA.
Boyd played in 14 games during the regular season and totaled 23 goals and 21 assists. He ranked second in the MIAA in assists and sixth in points (44). He currently ranks fifth all-time at Adrian with 49 assists. Findlay scored 25 goals in 11 games this season and ranked 13th in the league. He scored three man-up goals and tallied 31 ground balls and a 33.3 shooting percentage. Karapas saw action in 11 games and had 32 points (13 goals, 19 assists). He ranked fourth in the MIAA in assists. Smith played in 14 games and ranked 10th in the conference with 41 points. He scored 16 goals and led the league with 25 assists. Smith ranked eighth in the conference with 50 ground balls and won 26 face-offs.
