Freshman Kyle Sanderson Nets Two Goals in Road Opening Loss at Muskingum, 14-5

NEW CONCORD, Ohio--The Adrian College men's lacrosse team played its first road contest of the young season on Saturday, but host Muskingum University took advantage of the Bulldogs' slow start to take a 14-5 non-conference victory.

= Records: Muskingum Fighting Muskies 1-1 overall; Adrian Bulldogs 0-2 overall

= Freshman Kyle Sanderson scored the first two goals of his collegiate goals.

= Sophomore newcomer Brayden Adrian matched Sanderson with a team-best two points on a goal and an assist.

= Senior Michael Turner had a game-high-tying seven ground balls and a goal. He also had two caused turnovers.

= Freshman Fernando Rodriguez netted his first collegiate goal to round out the AC scoring.

= Junior Jacob Stone was 3-for-5 in his limited opportunities in the "X."

= Tucker Haas (4g, 1a) and Ian McGougan (3g, 2a) led all scorers with five points apiece.

= McGougan led all student-athletes with seven ground balls.

= Phillip Dappen got the win in the cage, making 11 stops.

= Also scoring multiple goals were Zach Kern, Nick Klinefelter and Ryan Stacey.

= Ohlen Rudy was 7-for-10 in the face-off "X."

= The Fighting Muskies jumped out to a 4-0 lead after the first quarter and built the advantage to 8-2 by halftime.

= Stacey scored what proved to be the game-winning goal on an assist from Matt Phoung with 12 minutes and 10 seconds left in the second quarter, giving Muskingum a 6-0 cushion at the time.

= Later in the quarter, Adrian and Sanderson scored 54 seconds apart beginning at the 6:09 mark to put the 'Dogs on the scoreboard. MU led 8-2.

= The Bulldogs were able to get as close as 9-4 in the third quarter as Sanderson and Adrian teamed up on the former's second goal of the day at 8:50.

= But the Fighting Muskies put the game out of reach by scoring five of the next six goals.

= Muskingum also enjoyed advantages in shots (46-32), man-up goals (3-for-9, 0-for-6) and ground balls (33-19)

= Muskingum evens the all-time series 1-1 as Adrian won last season, 14-3, at home.
