ADRIAN, Mich.--Adrian College first-year men's lacrosse coach Brett Wetzel has announced that Kyle Sanderson and Chris French will serve as the Bulldogs co-captains for the 2019 season. Sanderson is a sophomore midfielder from Brighton High School while French is an incoming freshman attackman out of Lake Orion High.
Sanderson, who is from South Lyon, last season led the Bulldogs with 49 face-off wins and topped freshmen on the team with 10 goals and 11 points. He also had 17 ground balls and two caused turnovers while listing second on the team overall with three man-up goals.
French, who plans to study environmental science, was a two-time Michigan High School Lacrosse Coaches Association all-state attackman including to the 2017 Division 1 Second Team as a junior. As a senior, he helped Lake Orion win the 2018 Oakland Activities Association Red Division title with 6-0 OAA record and was all-league, while also earning third-team all-state for all Divisions. He played club for Coalition Lacrosse Painted Turtles.
"I am excited to name Kyle Sanderson and Chris French as our team captains for the 2019 season," said Wetzel, who comes to Adrian after serving the previous three seasons as an assistant on the Kenyon College coaching staff. "Kyle showed tremendous leadership from our first practice this fall and embraced his new role as the lone captain (during the off-season). Chris earned the respect of his teammates the moment he stepped on campus this fall and was voted captain following our fall season. These young men will help to bring out the best in their teammates on and off the field this spring."
Adrian begins its 12th season of NCAA competition on Saturday, Feb. 23, at Wabash College in a non-conference contest.
