LEWISBERRY, Pa.--Led by three all-conference stalwarts, Adrian College made an impressive debut in the 11th annual Mid-Atlantic Rowing Conference Championships on Saturday at Gifford Pinchot State Park, where the upstart Bulldogs finished in eighth place out of 20 schools with 50 points.
Freshmen Aidan Moran and Rudy Schork made the 2019 All-MARC varsity team and classmate Ryan Boyd made the all-conference squad as a novice.
The trio helped Adrian, a first-year program, beat some schools with brand-name recognition that included Penn State (37 points), Loyola-Maryland (27), Maryland (26), Stony Brook (9), and Maryland-Baltimore County (3).
Adrian's men's varsity 8+ boat was the runner-up in the Petite Final to Franklin & Marshall. The more-established Diplomats had a winning time of 6 minutes and 42.82 seconds while the Bulldogs were a close second in 6:43.95. Earlier in the day, the Bulldogs just missed one spot away from the Grand Final as they raced to a 7:15.40 time in the second heat.
The novice 4, which competed in the first time trial, was sixth overall with a clocking of 9:44.88.
Bucknell edged George Mason for the team championship, 101 to 92. Fellow NCAA Division III programs Marietta (86) was third and Washington College (74), fourth. Adrian was not that far behind of sixth-place Franklin & Marshall (58) and seventh-place Johnson & Wales (56).
The 'Dogs will race next on Friday and Saturday, May 10-11, at the Dad Vail Regatta in Philadelphia, Pa.
