ADRIAN, Mich. - The Bulldog men's soccer team controlled the action most of the night on Saturday (Sept. 3) against Marian University in their home opener. Unfortunately, a tie was the final result as Adrian tied the Sabres 1-1 after one overtime. The weather turned very poor and lightning was all over the Adrian area forcing the game to end without playing the final 10 minute second overtime period.
Marian took an early lead at 10:07 of the first half with the wind at their back. The wind played a factor in the first goal as David Reinke scored his first goal of the season between two defenders. Brandon Zipperer lofted a ball down the middle of the field and Reinke ran up underneath it and took it to about eight yards before blasting the ball into the top right corner.
The Bulldogs didn't take too long to answer as Mitch Aguilera was tripped in the box and Adrian was awarded a penalty kick at 23:09. Pat Bradley converted on his first goal as a Bulldog to tie things up at 1-1.
Adrian kept the pressure on for the rest of the game ending with a 22-4 edge in shots and a 5-2 edge in shots on goal. Both keepers made significant saves and the right post made the biggest of them all late in the contest. Dillon Wilde made an attempt at a highlight reel goal as his header at 93:16 hit the right post nearly ended the contest.
James Ruby made one save in the contest but it came at 96:47 on a diving stop to his right off the foot of Everett Zank. Adrian is now 1-0-1 this season.
