GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The men's soccer team made its first MIAA road trip of the season and ran into a buzzsaw at Calvin College on Tuesday (Sept. 13). The Knights used four second-half goals to hand Adrian (1-3-1) its third straight setback, 5-0, in the MIAA opener for both teams.
Adrian managed just four total shots and one shot on goal which came in the first half from Yadi Aliakbar. Mitch Aguilera had two shots and Travis Smith also had a shot in the contest. Calvin (3-2) got contributions from four different goal scorers. Zach Willis scored the last two goals for the Knights upping his season total to four. Joe Broekhuizen scored the first goal in the 18th minute and Adrian kept Calvin off the board for about 30 minutes going into the second half.
The Knights then scored a flurry of goals in the second half. Miles Colago's header in the 48th minute made it 2-0. Travis Vegter's one-timer off a centering pass in the 64th minute made it 3-0. Willis scored his first goal in the 66th minute and his second tally in the 73rd minute. Alec Goorhouse and Nick Holtrop each had two assists for the match. James Ruby stopped five shots in net for the Bulldogs.
