ADRIAN, Mich. - Mitch Aguilera scored a pair of goals as the men's soccer team pulled off the upset of 23rd-ranked Olivet College on Saturday afternoon (Oct. 8) at Performance Stadium. The Bulldogs have won two in a row after going winless in their first five conference matchups. Adrian (3-7-1, 2-5) got off to a quick start and put pressure on the Comets in the first half. The Bulldogs had a 10-1 edge in total shots and did not allow a shot on goal in the first 45 minutes.
Aguilera put Adrian ahead 1-0 at 21:33 as he took a deflection off goalkeeper Alex Lang and blasted it home straight away from 10 yards. Nick Minshall had the initial shot and was credited with an assist.
After halftime, the Comets turned up their offense and outshot Adrian 12-5 overall in the second half. The Comets got the tying goal at 52:01 as Cole Dehen was at the right place at the right time and kicked a one-touch volley from close left wing for his second goal of the season with an assist from Esteban Russell.
The Bulldogs had a couple odd-man rushes but could not get the lead after Olivet's tying goal. The patience for Adrian paid off at 63:16 as Aguilera drove the ball low to the left post and it grazed the post before going into the net from around 20 yards with an assist going to Jamie Brower.
The tempers started to flare a little after the go-ahead goal as Olivet was whistled for three yellow cards while Adrian got one on the bench and one against Yadi Aliakbar. For the game, freshman goalkeeper Zach Zeka made seven saves including a few sprawling saves in the second half. Olivet had eight shots on goal while the Bulldogs countered with six shots on net.
