HOLLAND, Mich. – The start of Tuesday's soccer match between Adrian and Hope was delayed by lightning for about 30 minutes and when things cleared up the electric offense belonged to the Flying Dutchmen in a 3-0 win over the visiting Bulldogs.
Adrian (4-10-2, 3-8-1 MIAA) kept Hope off the board until the 35:13 mark when David Whitaker scored his sixth goal of the season with an assist from Grant Neil on a header inside the six-yard box. It took just 1:20 later for the Flying Dutchmen to add to their lead as Jeffrey Ekdom scored his third goal of the season with an assist from Jason Muller on a shot from 20 yards out.
After halftime Hope sealed the deal with their third goal of the night at 50:19 as Nicholas Heyboer scored his fifth goal of the season with an assist from Whitaker on a low shot from eight yards out. The loss was made worse by a red card from junior Jamie Brower at 85:52. Brower will now have to miss the final home match of the season on Friday night against Trine.
Zach Zeka made three saves in goal falling to 3-3-1 on the season. Pat Bradley led Adrian with two shots on goal as AC finished with four shots on goal as a team. Hope had six shots on goal and 20 total shots in the match.
