ADRIAN, Mich. – Men's head soccer coach Chris LeFevre enters his fourth season on the Bulldogs' sideline with a team unlike any other in his years at Adrian College. "We are tougher, more imposing and mentally stronger this year. "
After posting the school's first-ever winning season in 2010, the team hopes to rebound this year to a similar position where they were only one point away from first place in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) heading into the final game.
Coach LeFevre has his sights on being one of the top four teams and earning a MIAA Tournament berth. Anchoring those aspirations will be seniors Travis Smith (Ypsilanti, Mich.) and Dillon Wilde (Saline, Mich.) along with junior Ryan McCarthy (Brook Park, Ohio).
LeFevre says there is a lot of uncertainness in this year's MIAA men's soccer conference with over half the teams either losing large senior classes or coaches. "While many changes are occurring with other teams, the training and development of our players has progressed immensely due in large part to our team leaders, who have set high standards for the others."
Coach LeFevre described the team as a combination speed-passing-possession type that is capable of surprising a lot of people, including other coaches who recently ranked the team fifth in the MIAA coaches' preseason poll.
The Bulldogs will open up tomorrow Friday, Aug. 31 at home against Concordia (Wis.) at 7:00 PM.
Conference action gets underway on Wednesday, Sept. 12, with the Bulldogs traveling to Hope College for a 7:00pm kickoff. Adrian's first home conference game is Tuesday, Sept. 18, when the Bulldogs host Kalamazoo at 7:00 pm.
