ADRIAN, Mich. – The Adrian men's soccer team surrendered a second half penalty-kick goal to Concordia University (Wis.) in a 1-0 non-conference defeat in their home opener.
Freshman goaltender Niko Giantsopoulous (Markham, Ont.) was solid in net in his collegiate debut turning aside seven of eight shots on net. Concordia senior Kyle Sytsma tallied the lone goal of the game nearly 20 minutes into the second half (63:40).
The Bulldogs looked sharp early, when Adrian senior Dillon Wilde (Saline, Mich.) missed on the team's best scoring chance just after the first minute of play. Wilde's shot sailed just wide of the empty right side of the Concordia net.
The Falcons defense was tight in only allowing shots by freshman Christian Martin (Brampton, Ont.) and senior Travis Smith (Ypsilanti, Mich.). Beside Wilde's near misfire, sophomore Nick Minshall (Fishers, Ind.) had Adrian's other shot attempt.
The Bulldogs look to even up their record Saturday night at 7 p.m. when they host the Cardinals of North Central (Ill.) in another non-conference tilt.
