ADRIAN, Mich. – For the third straight time, the Adrian College men's soccer team (0-3) played a scoreless home game with their opponent up until the half, only to surrender the game-winning goal to the opponent in the second half. This time it was Grove City College (1-3) of Pennsylvania, who beat the Bulldogs, 1-0, Friday afternoon.
Adrian sophomore Nick Minshall (Fishers, Ind.) had a great scoring chance during the contest's first minutes of play, but Grove City's goalkeeper was sharp. The Wolverines' Alex Ayer scored the game's lone goal eight minutes into the second half by hitting the top right corner of the net and beating Adrian freshman goaltender Niko Giantsopoulous (Markham, Ont.).
Less than 10 minutes later, freshman Matt Davis (Kalamazoo, Mich.) headed a ball wide from directly in front of the Grove City net for the Bulldogs' best scoring chance of the game.
Giantsopoulous suffered his third loss in as many starts after turning aside six of seven shots. The team takes to the road for the first time this season with another non-conference matchup at 2:00 p.m. Sunday afternoon against Marian University in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin. After Marian, the team will continue on the road with its first conference matchup at Hope College next Wednesday, Sept. 12th and finish their road trip with a pair of games next weekend at Thiel College for the Tomcat Men's Soccer Tournament.
