GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The men's soccer team (3-9, 1-5) scored a late goal to pull within one of second place Calvin College (7-3, 5-1) at 2-1, but after a late call put the Bulldogs down a man, their rally fell short and the Knights were able to capitalize and seal the game at 3-1, Tuesday, in Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) action.
Team leading scorer Nick Minshall got his eighth goal of the season off a feed from Christian Martin with about eight minutes left. On the goal, Adrian had possession in the middle third and was able to find Martin, who turned and ran at their back four. Minshall played into the left side of the 18 and cut central and bent the ball into the far post side-netting.
"Although we got off to a slow start and dug ourselves a hole, the team showed maturity, poise and discipline and I am proud of them. The pressure we were mounting late almost led to a tie game until we could no longer sustain that pressure once we were down a player," said head coach Chris LeFevre.
The Bulldogs have now played the second and first place teams back-to-back, respectively. Those teams have a combined 11-1 conference record.
The team returns home for another conference matchup Saturday, October 6, against Albion at 7:00 p.m.
